Streetwear, a trend that is circling the globe by storm. From quality branded caps to high fashioned shoes, all you wear today is a statement of what you like and/or represent as an individual. Streetwear can be considered as a vibe you have when walking through the streets. May it be rugged, layered, or matching colors, it doesn’t matter; for as long as you wear what you feel that’s streetwear. Just don’t forget to flex one or two pieces of your outfit to break necks in the streets.
Here in the Philippines, a group of friends started a channel on Instagram called Perea Street. They used
streetwear culture and comedy to gain the attention of thousands of people and later on became known as one of the influencers of streetwear here in our country. They started with Julo De Guzman and Judd Figueras working together in WYD Productions and then Edsel Uy who just graduated college and wanted to work for WYD productions. They then started out just talking about streetwear and making a short video about what they bought. That first video boomed and they decided to make more.
One of their well known on-the-spot song composition called “Kung G na ba kayo, G na rin ako” became a hit because of its catchy tune and melody. It may be repeating the title over and over again but hey, it sticks to the audience’s minds. Combining fashion, streetwear, comedy, and music, they successfully gained fame and at the same time educates people on the latest trends, styles, shoes, clothes, music, etc.
Who knew 3 friends from Perea Street, Makati would take the region by storm in getting the attention of people on what and how the streetwear culture is here in our country.
